What Is Neighborhood Watch?
Neighborhood Watch is an organized group of concerned citizen volunteers
mobilized to assist the Johnson City Police Department - to serve and protect the community. Members of the Neighborhood Watch
patrol their neighborhoods as additional eyes and ears of the police, watching and listening for suspicious criminal activity
or unsafe conditions. If we see a crime we report it! Immediate and accurate reporting of a patroller’s observations
will effectively prevent crime and apprehend criminals - strengthening the partnership between the community and the police
who serve us, making our village a safer and better place to live and work.
What Crimes Can Be Reported?
1. Drug trafficking, underage drinking/drugs
2. Juvenile delinquency/severely unsupervised children
3. Theft, burglary and trespassing
4. Vandalism and graffiti
5. Harassment, menacing and threatening behavior
6. Disorderly conduct and public nuisance
7. Public intoxication, drunken and underage driving
8. Assault, abuse, racial and hate crimes
9. Child neglect, endangerment and abuse
10. Sexual and lewdness crimes of any type
What Conditions Can Be Reported?
1. Code violations
2. Vacant properties that are an enticement to children
3. Safety hazards
4. Homeowner and landlord neglect of properties
5. Violation of a neighbor’s right to quiet enjoyment
6. Crime nuisance properties such as drug houses
Primary Objectives of Neighborhood Watch
1. Maintain a cooperative system of surveillance over each other's property.
2. Accurately and immediately report supicious activity, crimes in progress
or dangerous conditions to the police or appropriate agency.
3. High visability of neighborhood patrols.
4. Watch members trained as competent witnesses.
5. Assist the Police Department, other agencies and crime victims whenever
possible.
6. Work with Community Policing Officers, municipal government,
residents and all village stakeholders to accomplish the goal of better and safer Johnson City.
